Inspections

Crane inspections are required by OSHA to be performed at least once a year; but depending on

the use of the crane, and at the discretion of our clients, Big Rakk Industries may also perform

monthly inspections. Below is a checklist of items that are inspected on our monthly program.

perform monthly inspections. Below is a checklist of items that are inspected on our monthly

program.

 

ü  Monthly Inspection Program Visual inspection of hooks and all load chains or cables

 

ü  Limit switch operational check

 

ü  Visual examination and operational test of motor brake

 

ü  Push-button, radio, cab, or rope cord control operation

 

ü  Visual inspection of safety latch and bottom block

 

ü  Visual inspection and operational check of wheels and bearings

 

ü  General condition and control operation

 

ü  Visual inspection of runway or supporting structure

 

Program Details & Benefits Under Big Rakk Industries maintenance program we will prolong

the life of your equipment by lubricating and adjusting machine elements and accessories

according to manufacturer specifications. Below are the benefits to the program:

 

• Avoid costly downtime due to lack of proper crane maintenance

• Extend the lifetime of the crane and crane accessories

• Reduce overhead; due to stocking of lubricants and special tools

• Maintain a continuous check and permanent record on the crane

• Reduce maintenance costs due to brake, and other part adjustments that are serviced;

  before causing irreversible damage

 

Big Rakk Industries inspection program is based on many years of experience in the material

lifting industry and our compliance with ANSI, ASME, CMAA, HMI, ISO 9000, NEC, NEMA and

OSHA codes. When performing our annual and quarterly inspections we are very thorough

in the examination of your equipment.

 

 A typical annual or quarterly inspection includes the following: 

 

ü Inspection of all equipment; oil and lube reservoir levels, and reporting of any excessive

       leakage

ü Topping off oil in gear cases (up to one gallon per crane)

ü Visual inspection of sheaves, drums, wheels, and bearings for general conditions and

       proper lubrication

ü Inspection of wire rope or chain for any signs of kinking, crushing, cutting, bird-caging,

       corrosion, or other unusual wear

ü Visual inspection of load block hook and safety latches for any excessive wear; such as

       bending, twisting, cracking, grooves, or increased throat opening

ü Visual inspection of external hoist parts, trolley frames, catwalks, handrails for loose

       bolts, broken parts, misalignments, broken welds, or any other unusual conditions

       (gear case will not be internally inspected)

ü Inspection of all safety devices (i.e. check limit switches for proper operation)

ü Inspection of electrical controls by opening control boxes and checking all contactors,

       relays, timers, etc. (checked for proper operation and loose or broken connections)

ü Inspection of general condition of end trucks, rail sweeps, drop lugs and shock absorbing

     bumpers

ü Inspection of motor brakes for proper operation or possible need of adjustment or

      replacement of brake discs, studs, coils, shoes, etc. (adjustment of electric brakes will

      be included at no additional charge)

ü Inspection of collector shoes, brushes, or wheels for signs of arching and or wear

ü Greasing of all open wheel gearing, pinions and grease fittings

ü Checking entire unit for smoothness of operation and proper pendant identifications
